Clever you think you are running through my little maze. With each twist and turn you navigate closer to your grave. A feeble mind convincing the body that it is the hunter while in all reality it is you who is the prey. Even I can now hear your heart beating faster and louder as the adrenaline floods your veins. Do your ears hear it too; do you feel the panic beats as you approach the labyrinth’s den? It sings a beautiful thumping song that floods the caverns in my ears. Drool has already begun to slip from my palate as I can now smell the sweat dripping from your brow. After all I’m right behind you and yet you still do not know it. Ah clever you think you are running through my little maze, not knowing that it is I who has carefully placed the route before you.
About the Minotaur
The Minotaur is one of the more well-known creatures from Greek mythology and as a result has been a very popular theme for traditional and 3D artist (both digital art and sculptures). A half man, half bull beast the Minotaur dwelled in the heart of an elaborate maze called the Labyrinth. Every nine years Athenian girls and boys were offered as a sacrifice to this monstrosity until it was eventually killed by Theseus.
As a fantasy artist the basic design of the Minotaur opens up a world of possibilities for a unique and intriguing sculpture. However, because the subject matter is so well-known the real challenge lies with designing a piece that captures the imagination of the viewer. After all, artist have been depicting their interpretation of the Minotaur for hundreds of years so a design really has to be bold if it wants to stand out from the masses.
